In the cuts, the UK government is axing the Education Maintenance Allowance, which enables students from poor families to stay at school beyond the compulsory leaving age. You can sign a petition to save it here (there’s also a pdf leaflet on that page with more information.)

    That’s… impressively unambiguous. I mean, defunding the universities and the local councils you could conceivably spin, but this is pretty much an open declaration of class warfare, isn’t it? “Dear Poor People: we hate you and would like to return you to serfdom. Love, the Tories.”

    Does anyone on your side of the pond understand what the Lib Dems think they are doing? Because over here we are very, very confused.
